HERO USA Winter Program

HERO USA is dedicated to helping kids create a lifelong passion for winter sports. There are many reasons why skiing and snowboarding are typically out of reach for a lot of the disadvantaged community – from lack of proper clothing and protection from the cold to just knowing someone who is motivated and familiar with these sports in general. We eliminate these obstacles and open a world of possibility to outdoor activity during the winter months.

Snowsports Education Program:
HERO offers weekly lessons at Mad River Mountain Ski Resort in Bellefontaine, Ohio located 52 miles from downtown Columbus. Our open classes are Saturdays from 9 AM to 3 PM but other days and times can be pre-arranged upon request. These courses are for our youth group participants and their chaperones, parents and/or primary caregivers. HERO USA also offers the option for private group lessons or corporate outings upon special arrangement. Our courses include all equipment rental, lift ticket and a 1 hour lesson provided by Mad River Mountain staff. Each student will then be paired 1 on 1 with a HERO instructor for the remainder of the time on the slopes!

Special Events and Competitions:
HERO USA also invites youth to the Annual LOUIE VITO RAIL JAM which is a snowboard competition put on by Ohio's own famous Olympic snowboarder, Louie Vito. We use events like this and our program days to teach youth both how to ski/snowboard and also to promote our mission to the skiing/snowboarding community. Each year we have raised the funds needed to purchase the lift tickets and equipment rentals for these young participants.

Youth Organizations:

HERO USA strives to fulfill our charitable purpose by partnering with other youth based organizations including schools, churches, government agencies and clubs. We offer special pricing and packages that are designed to help meet the tight budget constraints of any non profit. Each organization will have the ability to choose up to 2 (two) dates for a private class setting on the mountain. (*minimum class size must be met)

Volunteer:

(no experience necessary) Volunteer your time to help children learn to ski and snowboard safely & pass on your knowledge and passion for the sport or just help keep track of everyone and be “a parent” to all of us on the slopes. Spend a few hours helping our kids and then the rest of the day is yours to enjoy the slopes with a lift ticket and rental equipment compliments of HERO USA.

REMEMBER: you don’t need to be a professional… sometimes it’s just as rewarding for the kids to learn with their chaperone.

Register for a class:

There are weeks when we have open spots in our classes that were not filled by our partner organizations. These spots are based on availability and are fee based. You may also set up a private course with your family, friends or company based on the availability of HERO staff. These private outings are also fee based. If you or your organization is not a partner, please contact us directly for pricing and availability info@herousa.org

Donate:

HERO USA is a 100% volunteer based organization. We rely heavily on donation support to continue to expand our programming. You can donate monetarily though our website or we also accept in-kind donations of used sporting gear and equipment. Please contact us at info@herousa.org to make an in-kind donation.

Please email us if you would like HERO to help organize a trip for you. We can provide assistance and advice to get you started and experience snow sports in a safe environment.
